Shadow casting effect for a humble egg. This same background was also used for the "Experiment With Shadows" challenge. I just changed the colours, replaced the sphere and added the Inkscape logo. Here's an x-rayed view
@Inkonic looks photographic. Looking at the xray view is surprising. Much simpler than I would have guessed. I would have used billions of objects, thousands of cups of coffee and shattered nerves.
Hey @jobot For the egg's texture, I used: Overlays > Noise Fill For its spots: Overlays > Speckle Well, it took me also some time till I found the right filter (Speckle) with the right parameters (Filter Editor) for a satisfying result. For the shades needed to shadowcast the egg, I used as a guide this image but you can easily find similar (and better) ones on the net. The monstera shadow comes from another older project of mine, created and used for the "Monochrome" challenge. But yes, most of the image is just simple lines an shapes. Shadowing is the greatest ally to give your project a more "photographic" look.
After twelve intense hours of poking and trundling the balls around the table, Bob finally threw down his cue and ran out of the billiard hall screaming songs of insanity.
@jobot, Whisk It is a play on the band Devo's signature song Whip It from the 80's. It's meant to look like posters and ads from Devo. Maybe a bit niche?
@Spwiggles Never heard of the band, but I just listened to the Whip It song and recognize it. I was never good at connecting the names of bands to their music. Oh. Wait. I get it know! Whisk It ... yes .... LOL.
@razr ..... nice. love the detail and shading. Did you adjust the perspective on all those semi-spheres around the lower body manually or did you use a path effect or some sort of "trick"?
@jobot I just adjust them by hand. Mostly. I couldn't find a simple way to do it, because they're all a little different. Of course, horizontally, it was enough to do one side, then mirror the whole thing. I added the gradients afterwards. And vertically, I used copies, but then I also adjusted them one by one.
Had a little struggle with getting the texture right. Found out that you can't change a pattern's shape or dimensions using envelope deformation or the tweak tool. Unless there is a sneaky tip I've not discovered...
@Spwiggles ... I think the texture looks great. which pattern are you using? Noise? If it's a bitmap pattern, probably not much you can do except bring it into GIMP. If it's a vector pattern, you can copy and tile the pattern or sometimes I make a bitmap copy, do a trace bitmap and then I can distort the path ... but puts the CPU into nuclear meltdown mode ... SAVE SAVE SAVE.
Your egg inspired me to make a brick egg. Filled an oval with brick pattern. made a bitmap copy. traced the bitmap. Used Lattice Deformation to wrap the bricks around oval. Old Paint pattern with blend mode, a mask and a clip .... and then my nerves snapped.
@AnnaG. Thank You! This is one of the things I love about vector graphics: that I can put in very small details that only become visible when you zoom in.
Just a quick one. This month has been hectic and not much creative time for me. Had to play with the nodes a bit on the numbers to get the dimensional feel after using the mesh PLE. Really, I just wanted to make another egg pun. LOL.
@jobot re: you last question on my other submission. I used the noise filter and then colour gradient. I did consider using Gimp to manipulate the texture but as you said my little laptop CPU would start smoking. haha!
This is how I tackle perspective for textures (patterns or filters). Not accurate, but sometimes the illusion is adequate. Inkscape really needs the ability to apply non-linear scaling and warping to patterns ... or a pinch/pillow operation ... fit to shape would be nice too.
We challenge you to:

OH OH. What is the quota for file uploads? I think I've burned through my allotment. :-(
@jobot I'll try to get that sorted for you.
UPDATE: Your quota has been lifted.
Challengers are allowed additional space, but I am asked to advise that they be mindful of their use of storage.

@pacer Thank you. I'll limit my image posts to 2 or 3 and reduce their size. Maybe post the SVG instead.

Egg Portal to Opensource universe. Caution ..... One-way trip.
it's my first time using inkscape and I decided to give it a try with this month challenge. So here's my special eggs
@Axiera Which vector software have you used previously?
Egg Shield
@jobot You're so prolific. We can't keep up 😊
an autobiographic comic about daily drawing practice
@AnnaG .... not prolific, just retired and bored. :-)
I like your cartoon .... I can't do faces nor hands.
Egghead vs Super-Alien
I'll admit, this was the first thing I thought of when I saw this challenge. I'm showing my age... haha!
My entry, something which hatched out of an egg. :-)
A simple one from me - with a corny joke and a bowler hat :-)
@zejo Awww, super cute.
@AnnaG
Thanks, I've changed the position of the beak in the meantime. Guess it looks better now.
@Spwiggles ... Not familiar with what Whisk It Ovum refers to ... so I'm either too old or too young :-)
Automobile Review
@Paperacrobat ... hmm, looks familiar ... someone we know maybe? 😁
@jobot If you know - you know :-)
There's a bug with the post delete feature

@jobot I've never used any vector software before. Usually I use krita for my drawing

Thank you for participating in the challenges!
@pacer Totally understand. Thank you for your hard work on this project!
wow, so many cool eggs
Egg Pendants
Hens egg
@pacer Sorry to hear that. Anyway, thank you for everything. It's all been very inspiring and I've learned a lot from these challenges.
Here is my entry, just some chicken eggs.
Egg Balls
360o Egg Tetris Lava Lamp
One more entry from me. I aim at children illustration style.
@AnnaG .... Awe, little beds waiting for the newly hatched chicks .... cute.
@jobot Thank you 😊
Green Eggs and Ham Radio
This is my contribution to July competition. I'm too newbie yet.
PD: sorry about the above message...
@CondeChocula. Perfectly fried egg.
This is a new type of Dalek. There's a real egg inside. ;)

After 12 years, 7 months and a few days, using Inkscape, I realized that breakfast is the most dangerous time for an egg ...
@Siggi ... Love the cartoon! I like the look on the egg's face!
In the line of eggs! :)
@CondeChocula .. nice and he looks like Uncle Pennybags :-)
@razr the level of detail! wow!
@Siggi LOVE it! 😁
@jobot and @AnnaG. Thank you!
... and greetings from the egg, who is now in heaven ...
hello everyone this is my illustration, it's inspired by one of my favorite characters from one piece.
suuuuuper
@hacebaltazar nice line work. Is Franky the character, by chance?

This is how I tackle it.
With pattern fills:
With Filters:
Probably works best for simple linear perspectives where the scale is small.
I had seen a video of some birds building a nest inside a birdhouse just prior to this month's challenge.
