Hi everyone, here are the details for the new challenge...

Your task this time is to draw something for EARTH DAY!

April 22 is Earth Day, when we celebrate our planet and nature! You are free to draw anything related this topic, raise awareness about the environment, pollution, recycling, sustainability, or just show your love towards Mother Nature!

    Instructions/Information

    1. Please read the rules

    2. If you want to post work-in-progress images, create a thread in the WIP folder, and post your images there. When you're finished, post the final image in this thread.

    3. The challenge will run from 12 - 26 April. There are no winners. These challenges are intended to inspire you, and encourage you to share your work with us.

    4. You're encouraged to join in the discussion and offer your thoughts and feedback, but please be friendly and respectful. Constructive criticism is fine, trolling/abuse is not. We all want to learn and improve, so let's support each other in doing that.

    5. Most importantly, be creative and have fun!

I'm looking forward to seeing what you create!

OK this is my art, it's an example of how to use Inkscape to modify photos to create a protest meme. This piece uses mesh gradients and the colour picker to patch out words from an original photograph and then the text tool with gradients and text on a path to fit the words in. I used the LokiCola font for the a and r.

So here is my first entry.Β

I tried something like a post on a bulletin board. Feedback appreciated.Β

Would it be OK, to post several entries?

Good to see some entries already!

Nice work, @doctormo I like your use of the gradient mesh. It turned out really well. And oh man, litter! My personal pet hate!

@mondspeer I like that a lot, and it's perfect for the theme! And to answer your question, yes, you can submit as many entries as you want. If you want to try something else, please go ahead!

@doctormo this is awesome. I didn't think this could be done with inkscape.Β

I don't have a whole lot of time to spend on this, so went with a recycle symbol. Not the most imaginative theme for Earth Day I admit, but it was fun anyway. It's really just gradients and text on circular paths.

Hi everyone, this is my first post here. This is an Inkscape rework / variation of an entry I did last year for the PCD Japan - Processing Community Day 2020. The cherry blossom is from our street, I traced a rendering of the kanji 'Spring', and the third stroke of the top component is a Processing rendering of global average temperature deviation data taken fromΒ https://pkgstore.datahub.io/core/global-temp/annual_json/data/529e69dbd597709e36ce11a5d0bb7243/annual_json.json

Hi Jerome, welcome to the forum! Super nice pic, I like it a lot! That's such a great idea to include global temperatures. It really gets the message across. And it co-ordinates beautifully with your image too! πŸ˜‰

The photo overlays by Martin and Jerome are beautiful. (Very tricky text, Martin.)
