Tried some tweaks. Hopefully, it will look more interesting.

Good improvement. I like the use of primitive shapes and solid colors.  

Winning designs often integrate Inkscape's icons for tools... you could experiment with a version where the ornamentation uses or suggests the tool icons.

I came up with a light version. I remember @TylerDurden  suggestions. Perhaps will be able to add them after some more attempts.
