Is it possible to work on a drawing when all measured/shown dimensions are scaled ?
Example: I draw a square on a A4 pape. The square measures 2x2 cm, but I want it to appear 5 times bigger (10x10 cm) on paper/canvas. When I select the square, Inkscape should repport (in tool options) 2x2 cm (assuming cm is the used unit) and the measurement tool doing the same.
I ask because as my workflow today, I must to deal with two separate files (could probably also duplicate layers, but that's not easier) when I need to upscale later. File 1 is active work document. File 2 is a document where I paste a copy of the content of File 1, and then re-scale before print or pdf export.
So I ask this because it will then take less steps in order to export/print compared to the workflow I use today. Also I think it is less of a chance of messing up (i.e. working on File 2, but forget and overwrite file 1 - yes, have done that mistake some times)
I'd try working inside a group, but also have a clone of the group that is scaled 5x. When saving as PDF for printing, I'd make the cloned group the page.
Thanks for the suggestion Tyler, I have to let this sink in some more and think if this is a workaround I can still use. The main issue is I cannot measure directly on what I drawed.
However - exept from measuring issue, it partially still work since Inkscape allow me to enter simple arithmetics (multiply with some factor) directly in input field.
I've also played around with custom units, but somehow I never get it to work properly, the scale factor always gets wrong (for mm to custom scale that is supposed to be 5 times smaller, but neither 0,2 nor 5 get correct result). This is probably because there is something I don't get about conversion from mm to custom scale.
Little update. I figured working directly on the 5x scaled objects works best for me.
I also forget some important thing when I asked the question first, that the measure tool have an option to scale the measurement directly. I just realized that today.
