Most software has an About (this app) item on the Help menu that shows the installed version number. Inkscape does not. he New in This Version item links to a web page that tells only the top number, i.e. 92, not the finer one, i.e. 92.2 or 92.4. Where do we find this information? T
In version 0.92.3, it's in the top-right corner, and not on the actual image that you see there. That dialog has a few different tabs, and the version number is between the tabs and the titlebar for the window. This is what it says for me:
Inkscape 0.92.3 (2405546, 2018-03-11)
I see in 1.0 beta, it's also between the image and the titlebar, although there aren't any tabs in 1.0 beta. But there's a lot more info between the image and titlebar, than in 0.92.3.

About is usually at the bottom of the Help menu. I've not seen a version of Inkscape that didn't have it. Please post a screenshot of your help menu.

Thank you. I see it now. It's so tiny and uniquely placed that I just didn't notice.
