Beyond the Basics Trouble with special characters (Windows)

    Hello

For my current project I'm using the Lafayette Comic Pro font.

I first installed the regular version in Windows, and later replaced it with a modified which includes special characters such as èàôî and so on.

This font appears OK in the Windows font tool, and in Libreoffice Writer. It also works fine in Inkscape in my Debian Linux (screenshot below)

But in Inkscape and Gimp on Windows, the special characters are still not displayed (screenshot below).

Can it be a cache thing ? I removed my appdata/roaming/inkscape folder, I don't have an appdata/roaming/windows/font folder.

Can you share the font files in a zip file, or a link to download them for testing?

    Here's the font.

Thanks for your interest in my problem.

OK, I installed the font and it seems to have the special characters in Inkscape 1.1.1, Win 8.1. (The letters are cut off at the top, tho.)

What version Inkscape are you using and what OS version?

I used an old version of Inkscape (I don't recall which). But I uninstalled it and installed Inkscape 1.1.1 (3bf5ae0d25, 2021-09-20) on Win 8.1

Since you don't have any problem, and I don't have either on Debian, I think I may have kept an old version of the font (the first one without the accents) in a cache somewhere

    Here's another "fun" fact

    In Thunderbird = OK

    In GIMP = KO

Does Inkscape use gtk like Gimp does ? It could be a gtk font cache thing.

Inkscape used to build its own font cache and restarts took a long time when new fonts were added. Now, it launches quickly even with added fonts, so there must be something new with the font cache.

FYI I cleaned the windows font cache in C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local

    No cigar.

    *

I've removed the font from C:\Windows\Fonts and deleted the C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Roaming\inkscape folder

The font still loads in Inkscape and Gimp...

    Definitely a cache problem.

We may be getting into zombie-font world...  https://inkscape.org/forums/questions/fonts-deleted-from-windows-still-show-in-inkscape-102-font-list/

    😉

    That's it !

Removing the fonts in C:\Windows\Fonts through the Explorer didn't remove the physical files.

Removing it through an Admin Command did the trick. Thanks a lot !
