I cannot make the dot pattern match the underlaying gradient. The dot expansion is inverted regarding the trace image. Also the dots appears uneven. Any suggestions to avoid this?
Your screenshot seems to have alternating vertical and horizontal shift applied. In the Create Tiled Clones dialog, click [Reset] to restore the default zero values.
These settings worked for me. [1. Pick from the drawing: L] (luminance) and [3. Apply to the clones': Size] and deselect the other tracing parameters.
Thanks a lot both! Guess the reset thing in Clone Tiles tab made a difference. Also made a reset in preferences as proposed but I guess it turned out being the former action that brought me into much more control😀

Before proceeding further... If the version of Inkscape has recently been changed/updated, I'd reset the preferences and restart Inkscape.
