Beyond the Basics Tips for generating reproducible (scientific) multi-panel figures in Inkscape

Inkscape has become popular among scientists for generating figures for publication in scientific articles (see for example https://github.com/burghoff/Scientific-Inkscape).

For this special purpose, it would be nice to automatize the generation of figures as far as possible into shareable code to ensure reproducibility (and avoid human error).

Being able to record macros like in ImageJ (a popular programme for raster graphics) is to my knowledge not possible in Inkscape. The "--action" command-line switch on https://inkscape.org/doc/inkscape-man.html could, however, be used to imitate basic scripting functionality. Potential examples would be equivalent to https://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/Using_the_Command_Line. Would it be possible to use this for importing two raster graphics objects and label them by overlaying (vector graphics) objects in Inkscape? It would be interesting whether anyone has already used this more extensively to generate multi-panel figures.
