Beyond the Basics Text editing on path

    Hi,

I've struggled with this for many hours, and done all the research I can but nothing gets me the results I am looking for, so maybe this just isn't possible. But I want to put text on a path, specifically a circle, but I want the text to look a certain way. I've resized it and changed the font size, but when I click put on path it reverts it to a default setting. How do I edit text while it's on a path? I want to change the actual width of the text to make the letters look flatter, but it just extends the text instead of wrapping it around the circle. I also want the circle to stay the same size, for reference.

The simplest method is to use the text tool to increase the character spacing, but it's not clear what you want to achieve. Here are a few possibilities.

Check the image below, I'd like to keep the same font size but increase the individual letter width, kind of like your second example. I'm not sure how to do that. Whenever I put text on a path it reverts to default settings and I can't change it without it leaving that path.

Select your text and create a clone with [Edit > Clone > Create Clone] or [alt+d].
Select the circular arc and copy [ctrl+c].
Select the clone then [Path > Path Effects].
Click [+] and select [Bend] then [Bend Path: Link to path in clipboard].
Finally, reduce the text height using [Width: 0.50].
