Progress and questions. Brynn - in response to your previous query I am trying to get a shape like and auditorium with rows of seats. These are lines of bricks, with the yellow (stroke) representing mortar). I then copied a lot of them, put them one against the other to make a long line and used the "extension/generate form path/pattern along path" to create a semi-circle of bricks to set on top of the window. It worked!!!! IF you click on the top row of bricks you will see it. Of course I cannot estimate the number of bricks that I need to complete the semicircle (which will also change as additonal rows are added.) So I copied the original semi-circle of briicks which is shorter than the window and placed it on either end of the first semi circle. However, now I need to shorten these added sections of bricks. I cannot use the object arrows as this distorts the brick size. So I have converted them to paths. If you click on it you will see that the nodes do not match the pattern of the bricks. I cannot figure out how to shorten thse segments since the nodes do not match the shape. When I do shorten them, will the action include both the object and the stroke? How do I do it?
Second, below the semi circle are 4 imported photos. Each is of a single brick. I want to use these photos ultimately because they are real bricks, when shrunk look like a real brick. I have tried to use the above function extensioin etc. to create the same shape I did with the test bricks. I have united them, turned them inot a path and used the extension function mentioned above and tried to create a bend. It does not work.
For the first problem, the SVG file shows that after you changed the Pattern Along Path with Object to Path, it looks like you used Bend LPE on them. That's why the nodes don't match the squares. If you remove the LPE (Path menu > Remove Path Effect), then you'll be able to select and delete some of the squares (with Node tool). I'm not sure why you used Bend LPE, unless you just wanted it to be curved a little bit more. A better way to do it would be to undo the PAP, edit the path to be curved a little more, and then re-apply the PAP. Or you could also make the path shorter, so that fewer squares will fit on it, with PAP.
To be able to do something similar with imported raster image (brick).... Hhmm, was that you? Or was that someone else. On the old Inkscape Community, I remember doing a lot of testing for someone several months ago, and I actually found a way to do something similar to this, with an imported raster image. I'm not sure how much I can remember. I might just have to test some more... I'm not positive it can be done exactly how you want. But give me some time, and I can look into it.
I'm expecting a furniture delivery momentarily, so I can't do it at this moment. But later on I can investigate. Or maybe someone else has some ideas?
I seem to recall finding some way to do it with....well, it might have been the same PAP extension you've been using. I think the Spray tool could do it, although with poor control.
Anyway, sometime later today, I can look at it further.
Ok I'm back, and I figured out what worked before. It's the Scatter extension, right below the PAP in the extension menu.
Just use one brick image, not the group. Well you probably could use the group, but I think it would look strange. Make sure it's on top of the path (in z order). Then apply the Scatter extension with whatever settings you need.
Here's how it looks, with my not very smooth semi circle (attached).

Many thanks for your help over the years.
