I have recently spent time learning Inkscape properly in order to create a couple of designs.
I have come across a really annoying bug (I have reported it here, feel free to read it there), and I was wondering if anyone could help me find a workaround.
In my design (which I can't show, unfortunately) I have a few paths/groups that have the roughen effect applied, and as described in the bug report, they look like they should when the design is opened. However, any selection action instantly blows them up, so I can't even do object to path (or flatten) to have them preserved how they currently look.
I can tweak the parameters after they have blown up to bring them back to something similar to what they were, and then duplicate it (to keep the original path) and flatten the copy (and turning off visibility for the original), but preserving the exact look of how it is now seems impossible. Unless there is some trick that I don't know, of course.

Save a copy as plain svg. Now you can use the copy to replace the paths in your original file.
Aha! Good idea, that will at least allow me to preserve the paths with the effects as they were. Thanks!
