Beyond the Basics Pattern Problem

Hi. I've been working with a tutorial for creating an engraving effect. The instructions direct to create a simple stripe pattern by using alternating rectangles of different colors and then use Object to Pattern command to create the striped pattern. My problem is that when I re-size the new pattern to encompass the object I want to clip the Pattern with via the Clip command, the stripes all change thickness in correlation to the resizing. I need the pattern stripe sizes to remain constant so when different objects with different size pattern clips are placed adjacent to each other the stripes will line up with other. The tutorial says this is what is supposed to happen but I can't make it work that way. I'm using v. 1.1 on a Windows 10 machine. OS Build 19044.1766. I've attached an svg for reference. Thanks!

There's a button in the controls bar (far right end) that allows patterns to scale with object scaling (or not)... maybe that will be helpful.

There's a problem when editing patterns, form some reason the scale of the applied pattern is immensely big. After applying the stripes pattern you created just zoom out and you will be able to see the handles to tweak it's size and position.

Thanks for the responses. I'm not having an issue with finding the pattern edit handles, tho the zooming out necessity was at one time a real puzzler. Tyler's solve sounds like just what I need but I haven't been able to find such a button. Is there a particular tool that needs to be selected for this button to show up? Doesn't seem to be there when the Select tool is activated.

It's in the selector tool, the first tool, F1 shortcut. It's the last button
