So, i am an absolute newbie at this Inkscape thing, so please dont yell at me if i ask stupid questions ;-)
I will be using Inkscape to create custom graphics for dirtbikes, and i recently bought a template for my sons Yamaha.
I had hoped that inkscape would allow me to use the template in that way, that anything drawn outside the teplate area, would not show.
As shown in the attached picture, all of the red box is visible, but i only want to see the area that overlaps the template. Anyone got an idea about how to go about this?
hi RasmuDK, and welcome to the forum! You could use the mask tool and hide that portion of the template. (you can later remove it if not wanted down the road). If I understand correctly, the red box would need to be underneath the template, select both, then do Object>Mask>set. (if that is opposite of what you want, then put the red box above the template). ps whatever you do, hide a duplicate copy of the template on a separate layer, that you hide (close the eyeball), so you always have a copy in case things don't go as expected.
The guy in the video is working with the template in the same way that i would like to - where the template area is the only "visible" area. Is there any way to make Inkscape do the same?
I perfer grouping the object to be inset, then using the template object to clip. Then I can double click to enter the group (even if it's one object) and manipulate/move the object(s) in the group.)
