macOS menu convention is to place preferences/settings under the "Application name" menu (to the left of File menu) . On macOS you can also use the help menu to search for commands in menus.
Thank you Karliss and Paddy_CAD I was able to find it in the input/output sub menu of the settings sub menu in the Inkscape menu. The shift+ctrl+p didn’t work and neither did looking it up in the help search. I already remade the project I lost(better than the first time) so I didn’t get to try plugging in the extension to my finder search and hopefully I won’t go without saving for so long again but good to know for if it crashes in the future. I figured the question has been addressed before so although I couldn’t find it I didn’t want to announce something obvious by making a new post. Thanks for answering it anyway.
Am I the only one without a preferences option to access autosave? reinstalled latest version for Mac same issue.
[shift+ctrl+p] opens Inkscape preferences and navigate to [Input/Output > Autosave].
Here you can turn autosave on and off, choose a folder, set the backup frequency and the number of files to retain.
To access these files, copy the path used in [Autosave directory: xxx/xxx/xxx] then [File > Open...] and paste this path.
By the way, you'll get more attention by creating a new forum post rather than adding a comment to an old unrelated post.
