Can anyone tell me what I did that turned off the bounding boxes and how to turn them back on? When I select anything I see the bounding arrows, but the dotted box is gone. I'm using Inkscape 1.0.2. I was using 1.0 but upgraded thinking it was a problem or bug in the version I was using. However, it persisted. I'm on a Windows 10 computer.
That's it! Thank you. I did searches in hot keys and looked all through Preferences and just couldn't find it. I knew it had to be something I'd changed unknowingly.

Go into Edit / Preferences.
Look for Tools on the left hand side, then click on Selector.
Look for the 'Per-object selection cue' section. Click on Box.
Does that fix it?
