Hello. I posted this situation and request a week ago and to date, no response.
So, I basically abandoned my desire (and attempts) to slightly modify the user interface within version 1.1. So, I am using the standard toolbar set up, no alterations.
A deeper problem exists. Using the same interface that was installed with version 1.1, I am now finding that the same keyboard shortcuts mentioned previously are not working as they had in all prior inkscape versions (see text file above).
Now this laptop keyboard issue is happening after using the new Slice LPE, or after creating text, ungrouping the characters and trying to union them together. They will not union.
Why would any such operation interfere/stop "normal" shortcuts such as Ctrl & D, Page Up, Page Dn, and trying to union text objects after they have been converted to paths?
I will "assume" the "error" is on my end. But what exactly?
Is anyone else experincing similar laptop issues (keyboard or otherwise) after installing version 1.1 using the .7z package?
Are there any known bugs regarding installation of version 1.1 on laptops?
I would really rather not remove my 0.92.4 version just to "see" if a 1.1 installation (using the exe or msi installer) would resolve the oddball keyboard issue.
And I would really like to know what within the Inkscape structure would interfere with my keyboard functionality. Especially since this only happens in version 1.1 and no prior inkscape version, nor any other software I have.
BTW, I do not have any autosave option currently enabled, so that no timed saves are going on, as a possible source of interruption..
Can some programmer, developer, user please review this issue and reply back with me?
Even if - regretably - the response is "I do not know".
Thank you. I am eager to hear back from you, learn, and make necessary changes.
This keyboard bug has already been reported for Ubuntu and Windows 10 as bug issue 5058.
For anyone who cares, I removed the install made from the 7z file, and the other Inkscape versions, re-installed using 1.1 exe package, and still same quirky keyboard shorcut problems occuring. Even renamed the default.xml file and let Inkscape recreate a new default.xml file. Same issues. And I reset the preferences.xml and the same frustrating keyboard shortcut problems exist.
Hopefully this bug will be fixed soon, so that I can actually use version 1.1 without these keyboard issues.
BTW, all this has been occuring on my HP laptop.
I do not have any Inkscape versions installed on my desktop Windows 10 computer. I may attempt that 1.1 installation on the desktop in a few days and report back here the results.
Hi. I have been struggling with this for the last few days after installing version 1.1. on my HP laptop (Windows 10).
It is a bit wordy, so please see the attached Inkscape Keyboard Issues text file and the 2 ui files.
I truly appreciate your help towards resolving this. Thank you.

Don't have this issue with any of my computers.
FWIW, when looking into this earlier, I found that the On-Screen Keyboard (Win-Ctrl-O) do have this issue in 1.1, but not in 1.0.2.
