Beyond the Basics In-Inkscape Converting Object to Bitmap

    Hey forum,

I’m quite sure that I have used an Inkscape function before, that converted an Inkscape vector object to an (embedded) bitmap object. It was done by right-clicking on an object and choose "convert to image" or a similar name, iirc. Maybe it was an extension. The function was great to enhance performance when using complicated objects or many filters.

I’m aware that I can select the object, export it to png and re-import it. But that’s not what I’m looking for.

Does anybody know what I’m talking about or even know how I can find the function or extension?

    Best regards,
    Sheaulle

    😀

I'm not sure if it's in the context menu, but there's Edit menu > Make a Bitmap Copy, which does what you're describing.

Let's see....  I don't see it in the right-click menu, but maybe it could have been in an older version?

Oh, I see.  I don't use the context menu, but looks like you get a slightly different menu, depending on which tool is enabled at the time, and maybe what kind of object it is.

    Thanks a lot, brynn! That’s great--it even has a shortcut (Alt+B).

To later readers of this thread: In the Preferences (Shift + Ctrl + P) you can set the resolution under "Bitmaps" - "Resolution for Create Bitmap Copy".
