Beyond the Basics Converting a stroke-path to an object-path

Given a path that represents a stroke from a former object, how can I convert it to a path representing the former object itself. Thereby I would be able to set a fill color.

Special requirements: The stroke of the final path should be identical with the stroke of the initial object.

    Step-by-step:

    1. Create a circle ("circle 1")

    2. Copy-paste it  ("circle 2")

    3. Apply "Object to path" to "circle 1"

    4. Apply "Stroke to path" to "circle 2"

    5. Apply magic to transform the path of "circle 2" into an analogous path as "circle 1" has

I'm not 100% sure what you mean ?

However - if you mean 'Tramlines to Single Line'.

Generally when you do stroke-path, you get a filled shape - the tramlines are the two edges created from the stroke width.

That is a very difficult problem - worth millions :)

However, you state the purpose of this is to set a fill colour - that's the bit I don't understand.

I guess this is exactly what I am interested in. So how to convert tramlines to a single path. (Is there an other label for this? Searching online for "tramlines" does not help)

Regarding "fill color": For circle 1 I am able to set a fill color that fills the circle. Obviously this is not possible for circle 2, as the area of circle 2 is equivalent to the stroke of circle 1.
