On Windows 10 Home edition 64bit 10.0.19042 build 19042
Does color management work? That is the primary question here. I created a file with 35,642 square objects all of different RGB colors. I then went to Preferences under Color Management and used my system sRGB file for my display ICC and downloaded a CMYK ICC profile from idealliance.org (PrintWide 2020) I then went to Document Properties under Color and linked the PrintWide 2020 profile to the document. Now no matter what I do from this point When I click the color managed mode to on near the bottom right corner of the viewport nothing happens and I have set to mark out of gamut colors turned on as well in Preferences under Proofing. Secondary Questions are. Why when I toggle on color managed mode near the viewport doesn't it also change in the preference-color-management-proofing I expect the "simulate output on screen" to toggle on and off with the color management toggle described as being by the lower right corner of the viewport yes? or no? Last secondary question about this is under Fill/Stroke "Color Managed" & "Mark out of gamut" are disabled-grey unclickable no matter what color management settings I've got going.
Now very very last question is if color management doesn't work is there a good working build in which it does work?
Ironically I just commented on your "related link" Polygon right before I came back here to check if anyone had commented here LOL. I don't care at all if Inkscape embeds an ICC with my export. I want the functionality to see out of gamut colors and just go from there. Most printers will ignore your embedded ICC profile anyways and use their own as they should be doing.
CMS will properly write CMYK to the XML, provided the linked profile is selected when using the CMS tab in the Fill/Stroke dialog.
I'm unsure if the gamut display is working properly. It does not seem so.
Some guidance from the Devs might help to describe what cases the UI should indicate colors that are out of gamut.
In one screenshot, the "Fix" button has been applied and the XML is written. In the other screenshot, the full RGB red is applied to the SWOP object, but no indication of out-of-gamut.

Thank you in advance :)
Honestly - this has never been working for me. I know how to access CM and icc profiles but those never made it in exported imagery.

If that comment was for me I´ll send you back to it. ;-)

Is "Out of Gamut" not working anymore?
Another question is how to PNG export incl. icc profile? I never was able to.

Gimp can and does.
CMS out of gamut display seems to work in Linux Mint 20.
Windows, not so much.
