I'm going to Text -> Unicode Characters to open the dialog. I choose Leland from the font list (it is installed on the system) and chose the settings: Script: All; Range: Private Use Area.
I can see all the glyphs in the preview. I double click one, and it puts a code in the "append box", then I click append.
Some of the glyphs work and some don't.
For example, the bass clef symbol at U+E062 inserts a letter "R".
The quarter note symbol at U+E1D5 works properly and inserts a quarter note.
But the eighth-note symbol at U+ECA7 produces some wired glyph that is not an eighth note.
I'm using Inkscape v1.0.2, from the Debian 11 package.
Can anyone tell me why some of the symbols don't work while other seem to insert OK?
This is the font used in the production version of the Open Source Musescore notation software, so I don't think it's a bug in the font. The only thing I can think of is maybe it's not actually inserting the Leland font. It's just previewing in Leland and inserting a glyph from some other font, and basic symbols like the quarter note might already be in that other font. If that's the case, then I'm really not sure how to use the Unicode font tool correctly.
I'm trying to use the Leland music notation font, available here:

I'm no expert in unicode, but is seems to work here in Linux Mint 20.
