Can't click, or select, an object. - Beyond the Basics

I'm having an issue of not being able to select an object, or create a new object, on a document. But I am able to select everything withing the document with Ctrl +A, change stroke color. Oddly enought, when I open a new document everything is fine. How did you go about resolving it? Been working on a project for 5 days and this is nerve racking..

I've had this issue myself once or twice. What helped for me was switching to a different tool, then switching back.
What's your Inkscape version, operating system, kind of input device?

Object that stucked or missing layer or when layer don't exist but you have object.
Right Mouse Click in menu choose Unlock Object Below Cursor and for all object need to do this,
saved my month project.
