I am encountering an issue with Inkscape version 1.3.1.
When attempting to export my file to PNG or any other format, I navigate to File->Export, and the export panel appears on the right side of my screen, as usual. However, instead of displaying the file name I wish to export, it simply says "Filename," and I am unable to modify it. The field is grayed out and unresponsive to clicks. The same issue persists with the folder icon next to it. Upon clicking "Export," a message prompts me to "enter a file name," but as explained, I am unable to do so.
I've come across information suggesting that this problem is linked to version 1.3.1 of Inkscape and that updating to a newer version could resolve it. However, I installed the software through "Ubuntu Software" on Ubuntu 23.04, and the latest version is not yet available through this method. Attempts to install Inkscape 1.3.2 using the official guide, which involves an AppImage, have been unsuccessful. Similarly, efforts to revert to an older version via the command line have proven fruitless.
I have also experimented with alternative methods such as File->Save As and File->Save Copy As, but despite Inkscape indicating that the file was saved, I cannot locate it in the specified folder.
Even command line export attempts have failed. Also, but I don't think it is related, I always had issue when exporting file because it always export to a weird folder in the system files. Even when I change the location of the export destination was still exporting in the weird folder.
I would greatly appreciate assistance in resolving this issue, either by discovering an alternative method for exporting images or by obtaining a functional version of Inkscape. I am contemplating finding an older version, such as 1.2, in the hope that it does not disrupt my files.
It will just be the name of your document + what ever export format info is needed to separate file types. If that's ok, awesome! if not and you have an idea for how it should be, shoot me an issue report on github: https://github.com/SimonHeggie/InkSync/issues
Any ideas I like I have on a list in the read-me for future consideration.
If the exporter works for you; let me know. If you have any feedback or additional needs.
I've been having the same problem for months in inkscape1.3.1 I'm also going back to version 1.2, I'm not finding a way to solve the problem in the current version.
The problem is persisting as of now in Inkscape 1.3.1 on Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS.
This makes it impossible to export PNGs from Inkscape because the user has no access to the 'File Name' field in the export panel. No file name, no image saved!
This is a candidate version 1.3.2, it is not stable. I didn't install the candidate version 1.3.2 via snap, I'm waiting for the stable version 1.3.2 on snap, but from what I see, I don't think it's going to come out, it's taking too long.
It was unfortunate because I'd just done a few hours work and I couldn't save it. Fortunately, thanks to the above suggestions, I installed from the PPA and was able to copy/paste my work into the new version and save it there!
Maybe try the stable ppa: https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.3/gnulinux/ubuntu/ppa/dl/
While trying to resolve the issue, it caused a problem on my computer and I had to reinstall ubuntu and windows (I had it in dual boot).
I now use inkscape 1.2 and I don't want to hear about inkscape 1.3 of my entire life because I lost my weekend just fixing this.
PS : The bug is not solve with the version 1.3.2
Goodbye
Pauloux,
Sorry to hear about all that trouble; this is why I gave up trying to duel boot and partly what made me go pure Linux...
I can offer you to try my extension called 'InkSync' which I have tested for 1.3. It's essentially Inklea's QuickExport but with overwriting included.

It is all good with the version 1.2 thank you. The problem does not come with the dual boot at all.
Bye Simon
I've been having the same problem for months in inkscape1.3.1
I'm also going back to version 1.2, I'm not finding a way to solve the problem in the current version.
I was having this same problem.
I managed to solve it by going back to version 1.3.0
In my case, I use Xubuntu.
I have no interest in using AppImage.
The problem is persisting as of now in Inkscape 1.3.1 on Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS.

Is there something that can be done?
@portfranc,
I'd try the PPA for 1.3.2.
Released on November 26, 2023.

Is it working normally in version 1.3.2?
@TylerDurden
The 1.3.2 PPA version is indeed working, at least for my Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS system.
The problem is that people relying on the Ubuntu software management tool (SnapStore) get a non-working 1.3.2 copy:
Inkscape 1.3.2 (9e3d6414e7, 2024-01-14, custom)

This seems to be working:
I can't export either. Can't even "Save" or "Save as...".
Ubuntu 22.04
