I have been using Inkscape for about a year now, everything has worked fine so far.
I was always using Inkscape on Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.2. Now I switched to Ubuntu 19.10, and suddenly the "Layers" panel is behaving very weird. Now, when I open an SVG file on Ubuntu 19.10 (that I created using the exact same version of Inkscape (0.92) on Linux mint) all objects are on one layer, even though when I designed my files each object had it's own layer. When I open some files, they don't even have any layer at all which is strange because I remember that when I created them I used to move objects up and down all the time using the "Layers" panel. At first I thought that my svg files might have gotten messed up, but if I open a new empty document in Inkscape and create any sort of shapes they are all on "Layer 1".
Before installing Ubuntu, whenever I created a shape it was placed on it's own Layer.
I have no idea why this is happening, maybe I accidentally hit a key combination that makes the "Layers" panel behave in this way. I also tried installing Inkscape 0.92 using Flatpak, and I'm getting the same issue.
If anybody has an idea why this is happening, please let me know :-)
Sorry, I thought that the panel was called "Layers" but I actually meant the panel on the left which is called "Objects". I spent so much time trying to find out why "Layers" was messed up and didn't recognize that I was looking for the "Objects" panel which can be found under "Object" > "Objects" in the menu bar.
Thanks for your quick response Aero, you saved me a lot of time. I guess I wouldn't have found "Objects" on my own :-)

Sounds like it works as expected in Ubuntu :)
