Keyboard shortcuts (ctrl+alt + keypad) or alignments handles on third click (enabled using align and distribute panel : first icon) allow you to quickly set alignment without switching to align and distribute panel.
Handy, but : alignement reference (ie relative to First selected / Last Selected /Biggest or smallest object, drawing) seems to be locked to selection area, whatever the option enabled in align and distribute panel.
Do you know a way to modify this reference when using keyboard shortcuts or alignements handles ?
If not, it would be interesting to set / link this reference to the one choosen in align and distribute panel (I'd send a feature request).

The release notes only refer to the selection area.
