Beginners' Questions Turning a graphic black

Probably a really easy way of doing this, but I'm just starting out with Inkscape and not sure how to proceed. So I've got this graphic of an owl. But it's the wrong colour and I want to turn it black. (See Attachment) like a silhouette.

I hope I've done the attachment right.

Thanks a lot for any help.

Because it´s not made from a compound path but black color filled shapes you can do this: Duplicate the owl and go Path->Break apart then Path->Union. This shape can now be filled with color. But it underneath the black drawing if you like.

    Thanks for the reply

I know this is a dumb question, but which owl am I supposed to be working on, and which owl do I delete?

Sorry for the confusion, but I did say I'm just starting here in Inkscape.

    Thanks again.

I don`t know what your goal is; if you don`t need the line work dońt use a duplicate. I you want to avoid the „negative“ space we need another approach - but doable in Inkscape. Give a hint and we will figure.

    Hi

I want an Owl 10 ins high by 6 ins wide as a black silhouette so I can transfer it to my desktop CNC router. Then I'll cut 2 pieces and put a clock mechanism between them connected to the eyes so they blink with the seconds and a sound card that tells the time every hour. I'll cut a third silhouette and cut slots in it to resemble feathers, which I'll paint in later, along with a fourth silhouette, with which I'll add different colours to the edges of the feathers, making the whole thing stand out.

I'll need only one silhouette, which I can cut out on the CNC router over and over again using them for different aspects of the finished Owl.

So there you have it; I think it's worth pursuing as I haven't seen one on any platform.

    I´m still not sure:

Not to worry. I sorted this out very easily. I just printed out the Owl and filled it in with a black marker and scanned it back into my desktop computer.

    So, job done.

    Thanks a lot.
