Beginners' Questions Strange sizing behavior

Hi - I'm new to Inkscape, although I did all the tutorials. I have a color svg that I converted to lines in Inkscape, then I saved as svg, both inkscape format and plain and optimized formats. With each svg file I create, the image is tiny, and positioned at the upper left when I import it to my whiteboard animation tool.ย

If I drag the handles to resize, it gets a little bigger int he output, but not much. Please see attached images and files.

How can I make it bigger and not crammed into the upper left corner?

    Thanks for any advice,

    Kelly

I'd try select all, then making the page size based on the selection. Then save.

I tried that, and it's still tiny - see pic. I also copied and pasted the image into a whole new file. Other suggestions?

    Strange.

What whiteboard program are you using? I could try some tests here.

Also, here is a copy of the file cleaned up (deleted ~200 objects from the defs (hidden section).

Thanks; I'm using VideoScribe. And thanks for the file. How did you delete the about 200 objects? I'm having the same problem with a different file, so it must be something I'm doing wrong. Attached is the eps file I downloaded from vecteezy, and also attached is the svg file I created of the part of that image I wanted to use. How I created it was I just deleted the objects I didn't want, and used what was left.ย

There is a portion of the svg file that is not seen in the image called "defs". Inkscape has a tool to remove unused code from the defs section File>Clean up document. The Objects dockable dialog can also hep to find useless objects.

The Dinosaur_Bones file does not have many unused/useless objects. One group did have a raster image, making the white line below the dino.

Thanks; I'll try that - both the cleanup and the image you sent.

Ok, this is weird. I'm getting less stressed and more interested in why this weird behavior is happening. I tried inserting your image to videoscribe, and half the problem is resolved. See attached. Basically, the vertical height is fine, but the horizontal width is still way too wide. Suggestions? Crop? Unsure if Inkscape has an equivalent.

    Thanks again for suggestions!

    I'm intrigued also.

Here's a version I just downloaded from vecteezy and converted. If this works, then we can try to focus on the workflow.

Tyler - It worked beautifully! No issues at all. What are the workflow steps I should follow to get this result? Thanks so much in advance - I really appreciate it.ย

When I open in Inkscape I use the internal import.

    ย

Then I ungroup the 130 objects, and keep ungrouping until there are no groups left.

    ย

Then un-select andย delete everything except the dinosaur of my choice. View with checkerboard background in Document Properties.

Select all and use the Document properties to resize the page to the selection, plus a few pixels margin.

Thanks! I think maybe what I was doing differently was the import; I will try all these steps. Really appreciate it.
