Trying to get to grips with Inkscape, as a Sketchup and old Corel user!
If I set Snap to grid on and set the grid to mm, why does the X, Y, H and W readout show fractions of mm when I place an object?
The object appears to snap correclty, so what's with the position and size readout?
If I move the object it doesn't snap?
I also notice that changing the stroke width alters the size of the object? Is the size measured from the inside or outside of the stroke, not the middle?
The type of bounding box you want to use can be set in global inscape preferences > Tools
The screenshot below shows the same rectangle seen with the two different settings. You can see that with visual bounding box, the rectangle dimensions increase by the width of the stroke (actually two times half of stroke width), and x and y position decrease of half stroke width.

Please have a good read at Inkscape's Preferences like "visual" versus "geometric" Bounding Box etc.
