Hi all, hope I can get a solution here.

I have a PNG image that I am trying to trace. The preview shows great detail, but when I apply, it loses a lot of the detail. I attach the images here if someone can show me where I'm going wrong.

Inkscape Bitmap tracing is not going to get the results you really want (and need) for the original image you submitted. 

...So, tracing in Inkscape is better not use? If so, what options do we have to do tracing on raster image?

Path > Trace Bitmap using the original image you supplied simply cannot be done with the quality you are seeking. If you are good at "manual tracing", then yes you can get the quality you are seeking. 

How did I do it?

ChatGPT. Uploaded your image. Gave the prompt of "Convert this image to a black and white line art of the eagle. Ignore the background. Suitible for laser engraving". 

The resulting image was then brought into Inkscape and a path>trace bitmap was done.

Wow, that is really good. Thank you @COD. I'll give it a go on some others I need to trace too.

I simply used CoPilot in the Microsoft Edge browser. It uses ChatGPT (I think???). Took about a minute to generate the AI image. 

I mainly use Opera browser. It also has a AI chat built in but I never treid image generation with it. 

How did I learn? Just visit any Facebook or Reddit laser engraving community. They will give you more prompting tips on using AI.
