Beyond the Basics Stroke to Path breaks up arrows - any method to keep them intact?

    HI all,

A quick question and apologies if it's repeated - I did search the forum and elsewhere on the internet before asking.

When I use Stroke to Path command on a line with arrows on both ends, I get three objects spread apart from each other but grouped. They are, as expected, a line and two triangles. In addition to being relocated away from the line, the triangles are also smaller than before the operation.

Is there any way to retain the appearance of the double arrow line when using the Stroke to Path command?

    Thank you.

Not able to reproduce in 1.0, Linux.

Reproduced by setting transforms to Preserved.

Please describe your OS & version, the version of Inkscape and the installer you used.

    Hi Tyler Durden,

    Thank you for your reply.

    I'm using Windows 10 64-bit and Inkscape 1.0 (4035a4fb49, 2020-05-01). I downloaded the 64-bit .exe installer from inkscape.org.

I recorded a short video to illustrate the issue. Drop down menus are not showing for some reason but I hope you can recognize what was selected. It's just basic commands.

Please let me know if I should provide more information.

Yeah, that's totally bonkers. After stroke to path, it is supposed to look exactly the same and be a group containing the original line without markers and a group of the two markers exactly where they were.

You have a couple of approved posts now, so you can attach two svg files: one before the s-t-p operation and one after. We can pick them apart to see what happened.

Thank you for the video and the files.

It's a bug. I won't bore you with the details.

You can try using the Preferences panel to change the Transform behavior to "Optimized".  It will look similar to this:

Keep us posted if anything else pops up.

Same issue, still occurs 2 years later. Inkscape 1.2.1 (9c6d41e410, 2022-07-14)

By default I already had Store transformation: Optimized.

    After Stroke to Path:

Hi, just thought I'd say that I've been having a similar issue for a while. Was previously on 0.9, just upgraded to: Inkscape 1.2.2 (732a01da63, 2022-12-09) MSI installer WIN 64 bit, still having an issue where stroke to path reverses all the arrowheads in my svg.

Attached is a minimal working example. If I select the line and do stroke to path, the top arrowhead reverses direction.

Seems fixed in Inkscape 1.3 alpha0.
