How to apply stroke to a shape like this?

The stroke applied is for the entire shape as a whole and not just the letters. I tried converting text to path, Union them and then tried applying stroke. But I still get this

Is it possible to add stroke to 2024 as a whole and not just limit to individual letters? Thanks.

Duplicate your text [ctrl+d] then [Path > Object to Path] then [Path > Dynamic Offset] then use the node tool [n] to adjust the offset distance.

Hi, a small doubt. Any chance we can ignore the break at spacing?

My first thought was to use the clone and bounding box path effects, but that's much too complicated. The simplest solution I can offer is to fill the gap with a background circle (or any other shape).

I left out the last step.

Dynamic offset is an Inkscape feature that doesn't appear in the svg spec so it's not understood by browsers or other applications. [Path > Object to Path] converts the offset shape to a regular path.

No need to duplicate text in my opinion - just change the Order to Stroke/Fill/Markers:
