Hello. I am having issues with the attached monogram file which I downloaded from a website I trust (not Etsy). The file comes in as a path and is a nice clean file. When I try to add a name (text) to the file and difference the name out I lose detail. I have tried to break the file apart then combine it and that doesn't work. Curious if anyone can figure out what is going on or if this is something I am doing wrong.
I would try copying the original path (646 nodes) and pasting it into an empty Inkscape SVG file. Then try your edits and resize the document to fit the artwork (Crtl+Shift+R).
Thanks Tyler I tried that and it didn't work. Whatever the issue is stays with the copied file. I have the PNG image so I think I can do a trace bitmap, then node clean up and make it work that way I was just trying to figure out what the issue is.
No Issue Cutting the word "Test". What I found interesting in 1.4.2 is that I didn't have to convert the text to a path first (still on my first cup of coffee 🤣). Anyone know when that change occured?. There has been quite a few welcomed changes in 1.4.2.
Recently updated from a previous version? If so - maybe reset the preferences (yuck). If not - trying uninstalling 1.4 then install 1.4.2. Reset preferences yet again (another yuck).
Positive. When I bring in the PNG image and trace bitmap the issue goes away I just have to edit the file. Also I downloaded 3 or 4 files from this same source. All of the files are nice clean files but all have the exact same issue this is just the only file I've needed to edit. I'm still new to Inkscape but this is something I have not come across before.
The file you provided is clean SVG. Looks like it was created with Corel. Try updating to 1.4.2. Be sure to reset your preferences after installing 1.4.2.

BTW - Nice clean file!
Glad you can make it work. Here's what it looks like when I try cutting TEST.
Yuck - what version what OS?
Windows 11 Home Inkscape version 1.4
You sure you did a "Difference" and not a "Division" by accident?

In the process of doing this. Sounds like it should solve my issue. I'll update once I've completed the process.
Bingo that solved the problem! Thanks a million!! Very much appreciated.
No issues with this file just wanted to pass it along if anyone is interested. This is another file I downloaded from this same source.
Looks like it was created by Corel too. Good source!
Created two different outlines. They also came out nice.
