If I'm asking a stupid question i apologize, but I'm a retired Draftsman/CAD Designer, and i can not for the life of me find the single most basic command in any drawing program.... WHERE IN THE NAME OF MY SANITY IS THE "LINE" command???
You want to make a Line object you should start with the pen tool, which is the basic line operation. If you want lines which are perpendicular you can use the parallax mode, also use the Ctrl and Shift keys to control the angle of the lines as you draw them.
There are stark differences between drawing programs and illustration programs, particularly how tools are used, clicking vs dragging, constraints and dimensions.
Inkscape is not the best tool for drafting. Open-source LibreCAD (2d) and FreeCad (3d) are better choices, as well as free (for hobbyists) commercial offerings like Fusion 360.
