    good day dear community,

well this little two - steps are quiet very hard to understand - i

    1. create some dots - and afterwards i

    2. connect them with the nodes tool  ( in other words i connect each dot with oters ..

but - see what comes out - see the funny picture below..

well i think that some think goes wrong here!! - in other words - ther is noo field of dots that are connected - with nodes (that are lines) - no not at all.

there are funny images like freudian Rohrschach -Test images -  like they can be seen in  the psychartric are of hospital - well why is  this so !? look forward to hear from you

this is not what is wanted

    regards

I'd try removing the fill from your path, and adding a stroke if there isn't one.

    good day dear Tyler

first of all : many thanks for the quick reply - glad to hear from you. see the next test - i have done.

if i want to colorize this field - this little network  i think i have to
    a. use the rectangle tool (R) and draw a rectangle - and then

    b. choose on of the colors - that i would assign to the whole stuff

    is this doable`!?

update: is this the process that is needed

    like it is described here

    https://graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/21633/draw-rectangle-with-stroke-in-inkscape

in other words - is it like so: is this (!) the solution

You might be asking a simple question: How does one change a selected shape to have no fill and a black outline? The answers are simple.

    • Left-click [X] in the color palette. Right-click black in the color palette.
    • Access Object > Fill and Stroke... from the top menu.

You might be asking a harder question: How does one create shapes with any given style without having to make them first? The answer to that is convoluted, sadly.

You can make it so that shapes created take on the "last set color(s)"

    1. Access Inkscape's preferences via Edit > Preferences
    2. Open Tools > Shapes > Rectangle (I recommend you change all of them for consistency's sake)
    3. Set this preference: Create new objects with: Last used style

    update 2:

well - i guess that my problem is - that i need to know how (!) to mark the stuff that i want to colorize. ... see the next picture that was made while i

    a. marked the whole stuff that is in the tray... (everything)  - and then

    b. assigned a color .. .green - for my example

well see the outcome ... only the things are green that are once were black - but - not the whole rest.  and - this is what i want /(to achive)

see here: like you (Tyler Druiden) was presenting a nice solution: https://inkscape.org/forums/questions/rework-the-quality-sharpen-the-lines-and-dots-and-bringing-all-to-a-new-background-color-doable/

It is not clear what you want to achieve.

Please describe the result you would like to see.

    hi dear Tyler Druiden

i just want to colorize a whole set of things -  exactly like here..  is shown ( guess  you remember the project - and your creation of this good and very worthy little gif file.

    it is taken from here:

try to figure out how to rework this tutiorial

    see: https://media.inkscape.org/media/resources/file/inkscape_20250519110139.gif

note: its derived from this link:
    https://inkscape.org/forums/questions/rework-the-quality-sharpen-the-lines-and-dots-and-bringing-all-to-a-new-background-color-doable/

well : the thing is the following:  i need to colorize all - so i guess that i

    a. have to mark all the things - with a so called "rectangle"...

That appears to be a filled rectangle behind other objects.

I suggest stepping through the tutorials in Inkscape's Help menu. They cover most of these basic concepts and operations.

After that, the manual will provide more specific info on each tool and methods. http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/index.html There may be a security message when first visiting the manual's website... it is perfectly safe to proceed and use.

    hello  dear Tyler Druiden

many thanks for the quick reply.

"  filled rectangle behind other objects." - that sound convincing. ill have a closer look at that term.

and yes: i will have a look at the mentioned documents & tutorials

    Thank you alot

bzw. Coming from the GIMP-world  (and not to say that i am a PRO there ) - i need to dive into all the basic concepts of Inkscape. of course 😀
