I am creating a calendar. I like the view on the right, because I want the image to fill the page. I want to see what it will look like but I can't get a view that will only show the canvas.
Hi @FAMOsa how are you doing? Maybe you could try to apply a mask/clip and hide the parts of the image that are outside of the canvas?
Take a quick look, please, at this documentation link (http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Clip.html) one of our developers put together. It should be able to help you out! Also, feel free to upload your drawing here for a more detailed help.

Happy new year!
Another option that many people use is to create a separate 'Cover' layer, above the drawing.
There they draw a rectangle much larger than the page, and subtract another rectangle in the size and position of the page from that large rectangle.
The layer can be locked, and made visible / invisible with a single click, whenever you need it.
