We can't really learn anything about the images from the photo.  Would you please share the SVG file?

If they are already vector paths, you can simply change them to red.  However, if they are raster images within a vector file, you'll probably need to trace over them.  Using Trace Bitmap is one way to trace over them.  If they are already vector paths, Trace Bitmap would not work, so that might be the problem.  Or it could be the paths are too thin for Trace Bitmap to "'see" them.  If that's the problem you might be able to adjust the settings.  Or you could also trace over them with the Pen tool.

There's just too much to guess about, without the SVG file.  Once we can see that, we can give you more concrete suggestions.

do you want to just change the color of the outline? or you want to outline outside of the object ?

This is a duplicate post.  I already answered in the other post.

I will merge these 2 topics together.

Here is the file.  It is a inkscape file and if the icon looks like the gimp logo, just look over it.  my silly computer did that.  I just want to cut the images out with my laser.  Thanks

Ok, each object is a Group.  Here's what you need to do:

    • select the object
    • Object menu > Ungroup (Watch the status bar while you do this.  You need to click Ungroup until the status bar no longer has the word "Group" in it.)
    • while everything is still selected, Path menu > Combine
    • hold the Shift key while you click on the red chip in the palette (if you don't hold Shift, it will be filled with red rather than make a red stroke)

Now it should be ready to cut.

Some machines need the stroke to be a certain width, as well as a certain color.  So if yours needs a certain width, you can change that in Object menu > Fill and Stroke > Stroke Style tab > Width.

Brynn: got a 3 part question and you explained the last thing perfect.

I want to make a line and make it zigzag like a river, how can I do that.

The redline, is there a way to make that red line right above the black lines? I guess that is the last question  Thanks

I already posted the file earlier on the forum.  It's like 4 to 5 from the bottom

You'll need to tell me more about the zigzag line.  Is it just for decoration, or is it the cutting line?  Does it need to be regular - meaning that each v of the zigzag is exactly equal??   Or do you want it to be more random, like it was drawn by hand.  Or when you say, "like a river" do you mean that you want it to be more wavy than having sharp vees?

There are a few ways to do that.  One would be to draw it with the Pen tool.  If it needs to be more wavy, thats probably what I would do.  Or you could draw a straight line, and apply a zigzag pattern to it.  As I often say, you need to think about the end of the road, with Inkscape, before you can decide how you need to get there.

For you last question, yes, the red line can be above the black line.  But I need to know exactly what you mean, before I tell you how.  Do you mean that you want the red line on top of the black line, so that you can't see the black line anymore, because the red line is covering it up?  Or do you mean that you want to see the red line above the black, so that you see the red line, a little space, and then the black line.  So what I'm asking is if you want the red line on top in z order, or on the same plane with the black line?

Brynn:  I made a image of the state I live in. I thought about putting rivers through the state  that's what I meant by zigzag. The rivers on the map here got a zigzag or what ever you want to call it. I want a blue line to  vector engrave it instead of a raster. I will use the pen tool for this be the easy that way. I seen some images that have the red cut line sitting next to the black line  So you can see the black and red line. Then I need to learn how to trace around  object.  Got some keychains i want to make and need to trace around the object  Thanks for helping.
