When i draw an object it does not appear unless the view is changed to outline. The lines then appear gray not black like before. I clicked something but have no clue what it was. Just want to get back to normal.

    Thank you

    Hi, arnoldw :

There are two things that I would check first.

    1. How do you have your view and zoom settings setup? Try clicking on "View > Default" from the menu bar to place the screen back to an initial drawing state. It is possible that you may have enabled the XRay Mode or accidentaly toggled the Display Mode to Visible Hairlines instead of Normal.

    2. When you draw an object you should set a stroke color and width that is not "empty" or "transparent" or "N/A" (not available, meaning: unset) by default. Use the "Object > Fill and Stroke..." to set those, or look in the very lower left hand corner of Inkscape and hover over the boxes there labelled Fill: and Stroke: to see how those are currently set, or to set them yourself. (Read the "tool tips" that will appear in the box off to the right for instructions).

Hope that helps! Thank you for using Inkscape, and please report back if you continue to encouter challenges!

    Cheers,

    Nathan

It sounds like you might be drawing invisible objects.  This tutorial covers all the different ways that could be happening.  Note that this tutorial will not be available after January 2020.  Hopefully I can find another place for it.  But at least for now, you can use it.
