Beginners' Questions Dynamic Connector

Is it possible to glue (and not only to snap) one end of a connector to a glue point of an object (let say a box)?

The objective is: the connector should keep its connection to the object, if the object is moved around.

I have searched here in the forum and in the net,
but failed to find something useful.

    Like so?

    Hi PixelPest!
    That looks good :-)
But how can I get access on this tool/feature?
My version is v1.0.2 on Ubuntu.

I can see on my version only the old fashion connection tool :-(

Ok, my connect tool icon looks different. But I tried another time on a new document and now it works similar to what you have posted.

    Where is the trick?

Don“t know - I just have another icon set enabled.

Attached my example. In this drawing I have not managed to glue the ends of the connectors to the boxes.
If I move the boxes the tips of the connectors do not follow.

The fix for following on drag was added: https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/-/merge_requests/1994

You can get access to it in 1.1: https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.1/?latest=1

I have to admit that this tool isn“t doing what I“m expecting. Maybe it don't like "groups" or the direction I like. To me its way more faster with node editing so I“ll skip this tool for sure.

Thanks for your feedback! I am looking forward to inkscape v1.1 :-)
The other option is the "node editing". Is there a good tutorial around for this?

And what is the difference between the two approaches?

How would I reach my objective (of a connector tip that follows moving objects) by editing nodes?

@ellocco I think PP means manually. You'd move the line manually each time.

    Hi Martin,

today I tried both, the development version (v1.2) and the (RC_v1.1) unfortunately both do not yet make me fully happy.
I would say I have tried to understand the concept now four more then 4 hours, but I am still lost.

Is there a change to bind a connection-tip (connector-node) to an object node after the connector had already been placed?

The trick you showed to me works best, if I establish a connection. For me it works sometimes, but most of the time
    I fail :-(

It seems pretty reliable - but I prefer to do it manually once the layout is finished - before risking the hassle when it's not working as expected:

    The problem I face is:
The nodes are highlighted very tiny or not at all, if I move the mouse curser over the node.

Which of the different snipping options should I enable and how to modify the visibility of the nodes?

I don't think you need any snapping here because the connector tool highlights what can be connected; check out for the red square.

    Hi,

I had a more careful look to find the red square and succeeded (thanks!).
Now arrises the next question: can I influence for rectangle connectors the oriention of the 90 degree angle?
In the figure below I would like to have the connector oriented like the green one (currently the dynamic connector is oriented like the red one).
    Is this possible and how?
