Can anyone help? I recently downloaded Inkscape 1.0. In my older Inkscspe turing a line into dots and dashes was easy: select the line, choose a dot or dash arrangement and click. Why doesn't this work in 1.0? I have tried everything I can think off, converting shape outlines to paths, changing colour etc etc, but I still can't change a solid line into dots or dashes. If I open a document created in older Inkscape it still works as normal.
The problem is that the line is using the square end cap, and this extends beyond the end of each individual dash, causing them to overlap and appear to be a single solid line. If you set the end caps to 'Butt cap' the dashes reappear. You'll also see them if you use a dash style with much larger gaps between the dashes.
I knew I had to be doing something stupid. I've replicated your answer on the original file and it works. But I also got the same issue on straight lines (trying to see what was wrong) but the answer to that seems to be that the spaces between the dots or dashes needs to increase considerably and changing the line caps. Many thanks.

What am i doing wrong?
Describe your OS & version, please.
Bonus points, if you:
Windows 10. Inkscape version 1.0. (1.0 (4035a4fb49, 2020-05-01)) Not sure how to link to an svg file so that you can see - I have one to show.
You can try to attach a file to your next post. It should be fine that way.
Tyler,
Sorry, but not sure how to do that either. Can i just paste it?
Here are instructions: https://inkscape.org/forums/questions/how-to-make-a-screenshot-and-put-it-in-a-message/#c2271
(step 1 should work for you.)
Tyler
Thanks for the help. Attached is dispalying the issue on the red shape. I converted it to a path hoping that would help. It didn't.
