Beginners' Questions Changing object to defined color when overlapping

Hello, again with another question concerning the same logo. I've been trying to make it only 2 colors and now I am stuck with a 3rd one I am trying to get rid of. I figured I would like the black lines to change color when overlapping certain part. More specifically, I want the line to be on the lighter color when it's over the dark one and to be the darker color when over the lighter color. I've tried tinkering around with the blend settings but couldn't get what I wanted. I've also tried to cut the line in to separate objects but I couldn't find a way to cut it at the right angle. Anyway, here's the logo

    Hi,

To get the 'cut' to line up with the angle of the centre block object, you'll have to convert your black lines (strokes) to paths. If you're not familiar with the terminology, a stroke is basically a line, but after converting, it will be a shape with multiple nodes. I've detailed below how to do it.

    1. Hold down the shift key, and select all six black lines
    2. On the path menu, click Stroke to Path
    3. Now join these paths via Path menu / Union
    4. Now duplicate the blue block object in the centre (press Ctrl + D).
    5. Move this duplicate copy up to Layer 2 (Shift + PageUp). The block shape will partially cover your curved paths.
    6. Now select the block object, hold shift, and also select the curved paths. Finally, go to Path menu / Division

You'll now have separate objects that you colour individually. Remember, these are no longer lines or strokes, so you have to use the Fill tab, rather than the Stroke tab to change their colour.

    Hope that helps!
