I am fairly new to Inkscape. I was using the eraser to remove the notebook paper lines from scanned image. about half way through it suddenly started deleting the entire image each time I tried to remove a section of line. I am not sure what i did to make this start happening. I would really hate to start over. Any help with be appreciated.

Are you using "cut out" or "clipping"? Having used a different "Brightness threshold" or preparing in a bitmap editor could help beforehand.
The bigger question might be: Why Inkscape for bitmap editing... GIMP might be the better choice, unless vector objects are the goal.
