Hi, I'm totally new to Inkscape. I've heard there are no dumb questions, only dumb people, lol. So please forgive me if this question is trivial but I've exhausted my search through regular channels.

One thing I had drilled into my head when using Illustrator was to use Place when taking an external photo and incorporating it into the current document.

I cannot find Place in Inkscape. What is the recommended method of using an external photo and placing into an Inkscape document?

    Thank you.

Also, if the image file is used as a template (e.g. some old schematic you're planning to re-draw and change) then I use to make a new separate bottom layer. Place the image in that layer, adjust it if necessarily and then lock the layer.

Thank you, I am just finishing a course using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. My friend's young daughter loves to draw and I was going to put together some of the videos from my class that she could use, but I know they won't be able to afford Adobe prices. Inkscape looks great, but I could not find what to use in place of Place. Import should work fine. Thanks again.
