as of a couple of days ago i'm having to wait quite a long time when opening saved files or importing files into an already open workspace , seems like opening files can takes a couple of minutes and importing is over 10 minutes , is anyone else having this problem or is it just me?
saving files also takes a couple of minutes
if i click anywhere on the screen it gets all white and says that the program isn't responding, i did uninstall and do a clean install of both windows and Inkscape with no effect
i clicked on reset but nothing appeared to happen, i restarted inkspace and its the same, maybe i should try to uninstall it again and try a different installer?
After using the Windows uninstall, I'd check to see if the Inkscape directory is removed from C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\. Delete the Inkscape directory if it exists.
Then I would install using the .msi to the C: drive, see if it works there, then use the Windows system tools to move the app to the D: drive.
well, its definitely better , maybe 5 seconds to open a file which is a whole lot better than it was , i did open the same file at work and it was pretty instantaneous , so not perfect but a lot better , maybe its something to do with the graphics card, i'll try and update the drivers and see if that makes a difference
still having an issue with a couple of files , looking at the size of the one that takes time to load its considerably bigger than my normal files , but its also much more simple , so i don't understand why its so big, normal file size is 850kb, the one that takes forever to open is 12,492kb, why would that be?
so i am working on a file for cricut which has an 11 x 11 cutting size , i have 1 file which has all the pieces i need broken down into 11 x 11 boards, this file is 2359kb, i have exported each page to a separate file and they are also in the 2 mb range for each file, every time i try to save a file it goes up 2mb so the file i am struggling with is now 14mb, i have saved that page again with a different name from the original file and its back down to 2mb so i deleted the 14mb one, am i missing a setting? , i have other files that i have finished a while ago and they are in the 100 kb range , i did reset my properties when i re installed inkspace but i think the file is just too large , what do i need to change to make it a smaller file ? i think i saw my files are 96 dpi, is that the problem , and if it is , what do i change it to, my drawings are mostly just line drawings for laser cutter use.
Feel free to share a simple file that you create from scratch. Maybe there is a setting that is generating the style info, but I haven't seen this before.
The latest file also looks good... it has no extra style info to confound Inkscape.
I'll guess the files with the extra style info had parts that were imported from another program. Those imported files might get used again, so I'd watch for dramatically increasing file size.

3.Inkscape 1.3.2 (091e20e, 2023-11-25, custom)
4. wired mouse and wired keyboard , nothing special
5. none
Installer?
msi
Does Inkscape startup quickly without opening a file? (Just launching from the Start menu)
Are you working with networked drives or online folders?
yes , no problem with startup , and no its all local, well its on a separate hdd but its internal , its been fine up until a week or so
tried to open a file and its been 7 minutes and still not responding
it finally opened after 10 minutes
Note: I will always suggest resetting the preferences after any install, or re-install.
The documents, or the program is on a separate hdd?
actually operating system is on c drive, the program is on d drive and the saved files are on another drive
how do i reset the the preferences

i clicked on reset but nothing appeared to happen, i restarted inkspace and its the same, maybe i should try to uninstall it again and try a different installer?
how can i make sure its completely removed ?

ok i will try that tonight, thank you

Before proceeding further, I try menu: File>Clean Document... watch the status bar for a reply x defs cleaned or similar.
when i do that it says "no unused definitions in <def>"
OK, well, clearly that is not the issue.
Feel free to share a file with the issue.
i tried but the file is too big, its 14mb now and the limit is 2mb
You can share a link to your file on a site like dropbox, imgur, etc.

first time sharing something with drop box, did it work?
Yes. The file can be downloaded. I'm looking at it now.
While I'm waiting for the file to load into Inkscape...
What is the origin of this file? It has mostly style information that is likely unneeded.
Well, here is the file with the style info removed. It is 100x smaller and opens in Inkscape in a few seconds.
whats the style info?
when you say origin , do you mean where did it come from ? i drew it so out of my head i guess
They look imported from another program.

this has the same kind of elements
i did draw the other one from scratch too, but i used it in another file so it has been stretched and moved a bit to fit the shape i needed
actually i think you might have helped me figure out how to make this type of file
infill question - Beginners' Questions - Inkscape Forum
not sure if you meant create something new or an old drawing , this is something i just drew , its very simple
ok.
The new file looks good.
The name_plate.svg has this style info, that might not be used.

Maybe it's from an old template?
You can examine and edit files with programs like Notepad++.
https://notepad-plus-plus.org/
I looked at the file from 2022 ( rear_window.svg) and it also has the style info, but it opens easily.
how do i recognize style and how does it get there?, is there a setting i need to change or am i using the wrong tools to draw what i'm drawing?
Let's try another test image from scratch , this time also add some text elements.
ok , here you go
