Strange - I came across this 3 times now. I have no clue why Inkscape picks the wrong font or encoding. What I´d do and it´s kinda annoying and don´t guaranteed anything is: grab a copy of free AppCleaner.app - drag Inkscape.app onto it - throw everything it collects in trash - empty trash - shut down Mac (no a simply restart) for 30 sec. Start Mac and do a fresh instal of Inkscape - fingers crossed. Waiting...
When I installed Inkscape ( Inkscape MAC version Inkscape-1.2.0_x86_64 ) on my iMac 5k 2017, the text looks scribbled in the menus.
Any ideas on how to fix this? See attached image.
Thank you!
Is this on macOS Monterey?
The latest Big Sur, not Monterey

OK. I'll try this and get back to you. Thank you!
@Polygon
I just tried AppCleaner, etc and I am still having the same problem. Strange...
It's almost like Inkscape is not reading the fonts on the computer well to display them properly on menus, etc.
FYI: Other apps on my computer are displaying all the fonts correctly.
I know - it´s rare but it happens - in former versions the font "Helvetica Fractions" was the culprit. Not sure what we have here now.
Here´s one from few days ago: https://inkscape.org/forums/questions/inkscape-12-on-mac-ui-not-displayed-correctly/
and with another font: https://inkscape.org/forums/questions/fonts-not-displaying-correctly/
I asked in team_devel_mac - still no clue.
I guess I can’t use Inkscape for now. ☹
Just out of curiosity: do you have Helvetica Fractions installed?
There´s now an open issue here: https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/-/issues/3532
If you could provide any more info that would be great - it must be tackled down.
@Polygon
No, Helvetica Fractions is not installed on my computer.
@Polygon
My computer is an iMac Retina 5K 27inch, 2017
macOS Big Sur version 11.6.5
RAM Memory 40GB
Hard Drive Storage 2TB with up to additional 20 TB of storage drives attached
I have no clue how this info will help. You´re one digit behind the current BigSur - just saying.
I will see if I can get more specific infos that can help to get a bug fix for this.
@Polygon
Interesting, I will check to see if there is a new update for Big Sur on my computer. I always make sure I am up to date.
Thanks for your help. Hopefully this will get resolved so that we can keep Inkscape as one of the best vector apps available.
@Polygon
There was an update on my computer today to Big Sur 11.6.6. After this update, the problem went away. Thanks for your help! 😀😀😀
