Beginners' Questions Clones and coordinates

I am using Inkscape 1.1.1 for Mac with macOS 10.15.7 (Catalina).

Is there something freaky I'm missing about the coordinate system when clones are involved?

I've got a design which I've made from clones: five blossoms, with the original one on the far left. When I select the center blossom, its X coordinate reads as 122.800 mm. When I make a vertical line and have the Align feature center it relative to the design, its X coordinate is 136.427 mm!

What on earth is going on?

    Thank you.

SVG object coordinates are from the corner, not the center.

Wow. I can't believe how long I've worked with this program and still missed that.

I'd suggest that there be an option to switch it to the center of the object, but if I'm following the discussion in the feature request log (and I grant I may not be), that's been suggested and rejected for some reason.

Thanks for pointing out the incredibly obvious to me. My apologies for the trouble.

Inkscape will always internally use SVG standard xml for the working document ( we can see it in the XML editor).

(Other illustration programs have proprietary internal codebase that may allow for variable anchor per object, then refactor coordinates for output to SVG.)

    Fine. Let it be so.

But why can't the computer do the math instead of me (the computer is better at it) and display for me the center point instead? Or in addition?

Inkscape can think in whatever terms it likes as long as it shows me the terms that I like. I don't see what is wrong with that. The feature wouldn't even have to be noticeable to those who don't want it.

Added on edit: Or maybe an extension that gives you the center point of any object? Just for the human's own math?
