I was quite impressed by the AI's inflate effect when I first saw it and after a few unsuccessful attempts to recreate it with the Inkscape filters, I wrote this little script which turns an SVG file into a 3D mesh in .obj format. It is at an early stage of development, so please don't expect much. A quick demo is attached
