I have macOS Sonoma 14.6.1 and I am unable to install on this version too. My Mac is only a couple years old. Is my OS too new? The download that I see available is for 10+. Is there a way to use the software via website or online somehow instead? I too am eager to try using Inkscape to see if it will work for me.
@Paddy_CAD, my MacBook Pro is currently running Sequoia15.3.2. My subject "Will not open with macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 and later." is the prompt that popped up when I was trying to install Inkscape to my MacBook. I am so bummed that that Inkscape developers will focus on this.
@ShellzThomp let's hope that Inkscape will one day address our needs so we would be able to use this app.
I have an old macbook with Sequoia 15.4 and I've had no problems. As Tyler points out, there are two Inkscape versions for two types of Mac, older Intel Macs (i5, i7, etc.) and newer ARM Macs (M1, M2, etc.). You have to pick the right download.
For what it's worth: this page (https://inkscape.org/release/1.4/mac-os-x/ ) indicates that this version can be downloaded for Intel based MacOS v10.3+. I suspect that this is a typo as I'm running macOS 10.12.6 (Sierra) on a MacPro and upon launch Inkscape complains that the macOS should be 10.13 instead. The culprit seems to be the version of libpoppler.134.dylib: the message shown states that this library was built for macOS 10.13. So I suppose that the download web page might need an update :-)
This is a long-standing problem for a minority of Mac users. I have a mac but happily, I'm not in that group. (See this link for an extensive discussion. https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/-/issues/3532). The next Inkscape release should fix this. Until then, here's a workaround.
Open a Finder window then [Go > Go to Folder...] and paste the following path.

Does anyone know when this would be addressed? I am eager to start using Inkscape.

Shauno
High Sierra is an operating system from 2017, used today by very few people. It's extremely unlikely that Inkscape developers will focus on this.
It might be possible to upgrade your machine to a modern OS. What's the model?

Aloha everyone,
My MacBook Pro M1 is currently running Sequoia15.4.1. and I did run the dmg file for arm64 architecture for MacOS 11+ and this is what I got. (Below)
Has anyone run into this before?
Mahalo, Shauno
This is a long-standing problem for a minority of Mac users. I have a mac but happily, I'm not in that group. (See this link for an extensive discussion. https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/-/issues/3532). The next Inkscape release should fix this. Until then, here's a workaround.
Open a Finder window then [Go > Go to Folder...] and paste the following path.
/Applications/Inkscape.app/Contents/Resources/share/inkscape/ui/
Find this file.
mac.css
Open it in your favourite text editor. At the end of the file add the following text.
font-family: ".AppleSystemUIFont", system-ui;
Save the file and restart Inkscape.
This edit made no visible difference on my system, but as I said, I don't have the problem. Hopefully it will work for you.
