Beginners' Questions Inkscale "too slow" for freehand drawing on macOS

I have a pretty powerful iMac computer. I am just trying out Inkscape 1.0.

It is too sluggish: the updated frames-per-second is less than 1 per second when I try to do the freehand drawing. Essentially drawing with a huge lag. This severely degrades the experience and makes is somewhat difficult to do any kind of freehand actions.

Is this normal? As this kind of performance issues do not appear on other drawing software.

This is normal for mac, there are some ways to tweak the settings (which you can find in some of the existing forum threads here) but unfortunately the in the end the mac port is labelled as a 'preview' precisely because it's got some serious limitations. Speed is one.

Thank you Martin! I really love Inkscape and the good work the community members as you and the developers are doing here.

I assume if I install Windows or Linux in a virtual machine and then run in there it could be faster?

It could be. The order of speed/stability goes Linux Native build > Linux AppImage/Snap > Windows > Mac so if you do install a Linux machine, try and use an Ubuntu based system and install via the ppa for the greatest chance.

And let us know how you get on.

It's now much better with 1.0 on the macOS & probably would even be better in the coming days:Β https://inkscape.org/forums/questions/inkscape-10-in-macos/#c18181Β
