    Help wanted!

An Inkscape community member (dopelover) recently contributed a set of shortcuts that mimics that of Illustrator CC 2024, but it needs a larger userbase to test it before merging. If you’re (or you know someone) familiar with Illustrator, please do the following:

If you already have Inkscape installed:

    1. Download the Illustrator CC shortcuts file
    2. Launch Inkscape
    3. Go to Edit > Preference (macOS: Inkscape > Preferences)
    4. Navigate to the "System" tab
    5. Click on the "Open" button beside the "User keys" field
    6. Drag and drop the downloaded file there
    7. Restart Inkscape
    8. Open the preferences again, this time navigate to Interface > Keyboard Shortcuts
    9. Switch the "Keyboard file" to "Adobe Illustrator CC"

If you want to try out Inkscape 1.5-dev:

    Windows

    1. Download the latest test build: Windows direct download link
    2. Unzip the file. There are a 7z file nested inside the zip, also extract it.
    3. Open the folder, and double-click on the “Run Inkscape !.bat” file.
    4. In the Welcome dialog, click “Next”. Do not change the keyboard shortcuts here as there’s a bug making shortcuts fail if switched here.
    5. In Edit > Preferences, click on Interface > Keyboard Shortcuts and switch the profile to “Adobe Illustrator CC”.

    Mac (M1 and above)

    1. Download the latest test build: Mac direct download link
    2. Un-quarantine the app:
    • Open the terminal (Utilities > Terminal.app)
    • Type xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine (with a trailing space)
    • Drag the DMG into the terminal window
    • Press Enter
    1. Double-click on the DMG and double-click on the app icon within. Accept all warnings. If double-clicking doesn’t work, right-click on the app and click “Open”.
    2. Test the shortcuts:
    • If you haven’t installed Inkscape: Do not change the keyboard shortcuts in the Welcome dialog as there’s a bug making shortcuts fail if switched here. Press Next until a new document is opened.
    • Go to the menu: Inkscape > Preferences, click on Interface > Keyboard Shortcuts, then switch the “Keyboard file” to “Adobe Illustrator CC”.

    Linux

    1. Download the latest AppImage: AppImage direct download link
    2. Set the executable bit: (on KDE you can skip this)
    • Open a terminal
    • Type chmod +x (with a trailing space)
    • Drag the AppImage into the terminal window
    • Press Enter
    1. Double-click the AppImage in a file manager. Accept all warnings.
    2. Test the shortcuts:
    • If you haven’t installed Inkscape: Do not change the keyboard shortcuts in the Welcome dialog as there’s a bug making shortcuts fail if switched here. Press Next until a new document is opened.
    • Go to the menu: Edit > Preferences, click on Interface > Keyboard Shortcuts, then switch the “Keyboard file” to “Adobe Illustrator CC”.

By the way if you want to try this version of Inkscape, please enable OpenGL in the settings by going to the preferences > Rendering and check “Enable OpenGL”, then restart the app.

Please comment your feedback below or under the Gitlab merge request. Thanks for testing!

Someone on Mastodon reminded us of the option to import a keymap, too:
