Can anybody tell meย  what the 1/2 fill/stroke color is used for? also how do I get rid of it? I'm not sure how it even came to be on the screen. Thnx.

Are you perhaps talking about the Opacity-indicator? Open Fill and Stroke panel and adjust ย "A:" to your liking.

ok thanks, never noticed that before. So, what is the circle in the black square right above the blue fill?

New in v1.3.x - The open circle indicates the stroke colour of the selected object. There is also a smaller solid circle that indicates the fill colour. (This assumes the colours are represented in the displayed palette, fill colours selected by clicking on one of the palette colours, stroke colour selected by shift-clicking the required palette colour) If colours are adjusted in Fill and Stroke dialog so they no longer match a palette colour the circles will disappear. Paths by default have a stroke colour but no fill colour (indicated by the small circle on the left hand X). Text by default has a fill colour but no stroke colour.
