I'm new to Inkscape, I'm using Inkscape 0.92 on linux, I can't type Chinese in Inkscape, I can't switch language input in Inkscape, it just stay in English input, but I can type in other program such as text editor and others.
Any solution? Or I've didn't do it in the correct way?
Do you want to type with a Chinese font? Please tell us the exact steps you're taking. I guess you must have a Chinese font installed?
I'm not very familiar with this, but I am curious! As far as I understand, Asian languages' alphabets have way more characters/letters than English. Is it possible to type in Chinese using an English keyboard? Or do you have a Chinese keyboard?
Or do you want to switch Inkscape to using all Chinese (like all the menus in Chinese, for example)?
I'm using Linuxmint 19.2, my operating system''s language is English, the way I type in Chinese is using a Chinese input program/app called Sogou, I use the normal input switching shortcut which set in the system's input preference to swtich between input method when I need it.
The workaround or me now is, I open text editor such as xed, type in Chinese, copy them, and then paste them in Inkscape, the character showing in Inkscape was fine, it just that I can't switch input method and type Chinese in Inkscape. Typing in English is ok.
I don't clearly understand what you're doing (because I don't have any experience with it). But it sounds like Inkscape might not have the feature that you need.
Maybe a developer will chime in with further info?
Does it work if you switch your system language? We had similar reports already, and there that was what worked (but might not be a good workaround for many).
It would probably help if after testing, you could make a bug report at https://inkscape.org/report.
Thanks. Following the links in the bug report, I can see that this bug has been fixed for both the upcoming 1.0 and 0.92.x. If you have time for it, you could test to check for yourself. Let us know if you need instructions to find the versions.
The OS linux depends on the inkspace, the language can be changed from the settings where there can be settings in the language to be able to change into Chinese. I have faced the same issue, however, www.facebook.com has helped me to understand the issue and find a solution to it.

What's your operating system's language? What's the language that you use Inkscape in? Are you using a font that has the characters?
Hi @brynn @Moini ,

Fyi, it's Inkscape, not inkspace
@raej @Moini I tried to change system language but still no luck...
@brynn thanks for pointing out the typo π
The typo was for raej (not you).
